In early September I went to see Luis Miguel.
Luis Miguel is….
- Born in Puerto Rico
- Spanish father and french mother
- Mexico’s top class singer
For me Luis Miguel is special because I practiced Spanish with his songs. (Thanks to my maestra Angela!) and also my friend Nadia gave me his CD. Luis Miguel would be one of the first Spanish-speaking singer I learned when I was still in Japan.
In Mexico people call him Luismi or Mickey.
I was so excited to see him live because his tour is about his goodies from the past. Since I don’t know all his songs, but I am sure he will be singing some songs that I know.
In this reason I get to see his poster in the entire city of Tijuana.
Actually it was my very first time to go to the concert in Mexico. The ticket said the show starts at 9pm, but remember it’s Latin. The show won’t start at 9pm.
The show actually started at 940pm, and ended around 1130pm.
My Mexicana friend Marina and I dropped by the venue after 6pm, and we saw this loooooong snake-like line (fila).
The concert was held at Caliente, where I watched the Chorros soccer game the other day.
This is the ticket. It cost 800 pesos, which is not bad at all. But somehow the seat is not reserved. My best guess is that Caliente wanted people come early to secure their seat and then eat and drink there…
We agreed that we don’t want to wait in line for hours. So we decided to go to the mall nearby.
This is Marina. She is a Mexican Beauty. We met through work. We worked on a project two years ago. She’s lovely, isn’t she??
We stopped by Apple Bee’s and enjoyed mojito and dinner.
Marina ordered fajita. Huge portion! A mountain of rice, guac and cream.
Around 730pm, we came back to the venue from dinner and found the line was even longer. It seemed the venue opened after 730pm.
OMG, what can we do…!? But then luckily we found one super short line and actually entered the venue within three minutes…! (Everything is unpredictable here in Mexico)
What I learned after we entered was that Caliente’s organization was pretty bad. We saw some people had much better tickets like 1200 pesos and they ended up seating no-so-good seating. Or some people who had cheaper tickets than what we had ended up in the arena.
Actually the people sat next to us originally bought 1200 pesos tickets but found out that their seating is not so good, they decided to come to our area to view the show.
And then more happened…
You see what happened here?
This is the back arena area. There was a fence between this area and front arena area. And somehow the chairs at the back area were placed way far from the fence. Of course everyone wants to as close as the stage.
Then eventually the audience carried their chair and moved as close as the fence.
Looking at the big mess we waited for a few hours. The concert started around 940pm.
The stage was well organized. The real Luis Miguel was amazing singer. He has good volume of voice, and the his voice was exactly like what I am used to listen on CD. It’s so nice to listen live to the songs you are very familiar with.
He covers the songs I know one by one, I felt the best!
It’s funny but whenever I visit Caliente, I meet my old friends. Last time when I came to watch soccer game, I saw Luis, my friend of 10 years.
And this evening I saw my friend Monica after few years! She was sitting in the front raw of ours!
Monica from behind. She told me she came with her mom and sister. I never dreamt I would see her here. So happy!
Mariachi joined the last half of his concert. I love Luismi’s Mariachi songs too! So good. I would be so proud if I were Mexican.
Finale. Both his songs and the stage were amazing.
I highly recommend Luis Miguel’s concert. Please do pay a visit if you have a chance. I will definitely go if he comes again.
