MA came back to SD after 4 years
Thursday February 7th 2019 @ Pechange Arena San Diego (ex Sports Arena)
Our 5th visit (!) to MA concert
Surprisingly (!?) it was our 5th visit to Marc’s concert. Are there any other Japanese fans who experienced more than we did!? It must be just me and my J friend Yuko a.k.a Yuquita who flew in whenever I went to see him.
Here is the list of MA concerts we visited:
1st in LA 2013 Microsoft Theater with Yuquita and my Mexicana friend Marina
2nd August 2014 at San Diego Amphitheater with Yuquita, Masumi and Marina. We started to bring our “flags”
3rd 2016 at LA Microsoft Theater with Yuquita and Masumi
4th in 2017 at LA Forum with Yuquita
5th (this time) 2019 San Diego Pechanga Arena with Yuquita
Having a concert in San Diego is such an ease! No long drive necessary.
Weekday night, he never shows up early…
Thursday night. Door open 7pm. Our best guess was to start after 8pm. We arrived the area a bit early. Stopped by El Pollo Loco nearby for quick chicken and nachos dinner.
Entered the venue by 8pm but there’s lots of empty seats and it seems the show won’t start anytime soon.
So… photo shooting time! Do you see those empty seats behind me!?
Marc’s concert opens with the Puerto Rican commedian Joey Vega’s funny jokes, but this time I thought he won’t show up. Because you know, it is Thursday night. People work tomorrow.
Then Joey Vega showed up after 8:30pm. OMG.
Is the main show starts around 9pm!?
Mr. Vega announced he became a grandpa. Congrats!
And I found her! My Mexican coworker Mariana.
She came along with her sister and her bf all the way from TJ, even on Thursday night…!
You know lots of people especially my salsa friends in Japan would imagine that Mexicans love salsa because they are latinos, but actually not so much around the border towns.
Mariana y su hermana are from Mexico City, D.F. That’s why they LOVE salsa. I appreciate having her as my coworker. (BTW her sis used to work with us too!) It was so nice seeing them at the venue!)
… and….!
Marc noticed us and said Japon!! (Extremely Excited…!)
The King of Salsa showed up around 9:30pm! (Super late…!) Thank god I took a time off the following day from work!
I loved how they played several songs that MA collaborated with other artists (you know those “featuring MA” songs? I personally love Pitbull’s Rain Over Me.
We brought our Japan & Puerto Rico flags as always.
As waving the flags, he looked towards us and said
“Japon!!”.
OMG!! We raised our clenched fists yo! The fans around us warmly looked at us.
Mother-and-daughter looking neighbor of us would have be Puerto Ricans. We let them hold our PR flag and cheered juntos.
PR daughter and Yuquita
We saw a couple dancing. How nice is that!!
To be honest I was a bit worried about Marc this time. It’s between you and me but I felt Marc’s vocal was not perfect this time. Definitely something was wrong. He caught a cold, or…?
But then I checked his opening performance at PremioLoNuestro on Feburuary 21st, where he performed his new song and he sounded normal (=pretty good). What happened to him at the concert!?
After the concert. Took another shot with the PR mother and daughter neighbor.
