When I visited La Habana the Cuban Capitol back in 2009, a Cuban man talked to us. He asked us where we were from, and he enthusiastically told us “Do you know Orquesta De La Luz? They are AMAZING!”
I did know the Japanese salsa band Orquesta De La Luz, but I didn’t know they are acclaimed so much so that even this guy in a closed island of communism knew about them!
Short Interview/ Documentary by NHK World
So the other day I watched this 15 minutes movie by NHK World called “No Salsa, No Life- NORA/ Singer” . NORA is the lead singer of Orquesta De La Luz. You can learn about how they started as a salsa band, and how they performed in North and South America and Europe.
I was impressed to learn how she suggested the band to head New York to perform. She is true to her heart and passion for salsa.
In the end of the interview she introduces one of her favorite phrases that Compay segundo gave her. 人生60歳まではリハーサル. Life is a rehearsal until 60 years old.
This video is available to watch for a year, until November 19, 2020, so go watch now! Don’t miss it!!
