Salsa Week continues
Having Marc Anthony concert last week, I enjoyed another salsa concert this week. Salsa Week continues. It’s on February 14th, the Valentine’s Day!
This concert is two-in-one deal. Two artist/ group play in a single show. The first one was my main target of the night. Adolescentes Orquesta. Venezueran salsa group. They have lots of good songs and always wanted to see them live.
The other artist is Maelo Ruiz. New York born Puerto Rican salsa legend. It was my 2nd time viewing him.
Always start late (like 1130pm). No exceptions!
The evening of the concert I was so tired that I fell asleep along with my baby boy. Mr. Tiger (my husband) woked me up saying “Hey, isn’t it time to go??” That was around 10pm. I just changed clothes to whatever and arrived the venue at 11pm.
In this nightclub there’s no chance a show started before 11pm. And this way no exceptions! It started at 11:20pm. The more I experienced, the more I know the timing.
I brought CD and sharpee for autograph!!
For the larger-sized concert like Marc Anthony’s I normally bring national flags but not for this venue. My flags are just too big. Instead I brought My CD and a sharpee just in case for an autograph!
Because I arrived kind of later and assumed I would have to view from far from the stage, then I saw some familiar-looking face near the stage.
Aico Simon! The Japanese Salsa Singer in San Diego!!
I never saw any Asian in this venue, but finally I saw one other than myself on the mirror lol
Aico asked me “By any chance was it you who was waving a Japanese flag at Marc Anthony concert?”
Of course that was me.
She asked if I brought the flag so I talked about my CD and sharpee.
You will see what happens.
At 11:20pm Los Adolescentes on stage!
So… luckily I stick to Aico and the spot close to the stage and Los Adolescentes showed up at 11:20pm.
They opened the show with Hoy Aprendí, then Anhelo. Both are super famous songs. How cool is that!!
I just LOVE salsa group’s dance performance!
This is it! Baile, baile, baileeeee!!!
I just LOVE looking at salsa group dancing. You know no matter how old (or not-so-good-looking) the dancers are, it doesn’t matter really. This cohesive dance just make them look at least 30 % more attractive lol. (I don’t mean Los Adolescentes members are not good-looking. They are.)
This video is a short one, but these four members move their hips and do a round.
I personally like the vocalist Renzo Romero
This is Renzo Romero talking to the audience. I couldn’t catch his Spanish well but understood I caught him saying something like tonight is for you guys.
Renzo Romero. Probably he is the lead vocal of the band. On their facebook page he is listed on the top of the list as cantante. He always stand in the center.
I can’t figure out the name of this song but Mr. Renzo is singing. And the rest three people are dancing using the space max. Oh yes I love them dancing…! So very cool.
You know this venue’s sound system is not the best. I felt sorry for the singers as the quality of the sound is not just great. Well, but then it is okay as far as they can save up $$$.
Mr. Renzo looks a bit like a racoon but even that I like. And the name Renzo could sound like a Japanese, no?
Y Solo Sienteme
This song is good too….!
Guess what, I got their autographs!!
Sooooooo closeeeeee
I brought the CD and a sharpee because I know how intimate this venue is.
How lucky I am! I was looking the best moment and finally Mr. Crazy Joseph picked up my CD and the sharpee! He kindly passed them to the other members so all the singers filled the autograph on my CD!
Arrepentida
Check out this video, the singer on the far left bring back my CD to me while performing his song. This is another famous song Arrepentida.
The member should be:
Arnando Quintero, director (he is playing instruments)
(Crazy) Joseph
Renzo Romero
Leonardo
Ronald
Am I correct???
Ta-da!! I got the autographed CD!! This became great memory of my life. It took me some effort to match the autograph and the singer.

Here I borrowed some of the very cool photos by Mr. Jose Ramos, The Photographer of Latin Community of San Diego
Los Adolescentes Trombonist is beyond pro
This tall gentleman next to me is the Trombonist of Manny Cepeda Orquestra. He came to see the show with Aico.
According to him, his tronbone skill would be intermediate, and there are people who are advanced level, but then this Adolecentes trombonist is beyond advanced level.
Check out later with the video I took, you can tell that this trombonist acts as a director during the session with Maelo Ruiz.
The Ending with La Persona Ideal
The first half of the show with Adolescentes ended with La Persona Ideal. The dream-like time passed sooo fast! It was around 12:20am when Adolescentes left the stage.
Then guess what, we had to wait like an hour before Maelo Ruiz showed up!!! OMG.
I went to the bathroom (of course), chat with Aico. Aico and the MCO’s Trombonist (sorry I forgot his name!) left the venue before Maelo Ruiz showed up.
Latinos talked to me thanks to the autograph incident
Oh yes, because I got autographes from Adolescentes multiple latino audience spoke to me.
The comments were like these:
- Are you Japanese? I work for a Japanese restaurant.
- Are you from Peru? (She thought I am immigrant Japanese-peruvian)
- I saw you purchasing the ticket at the shop. You used the ATM to get some cash right? (I am noticeable even before the concert lol)
- Adolescentes perform in Japan? (Later I learned they have performed in Japan but I replied no)
The concert continued. I waited, then….
Maelo Ruiz Show started with Por Favor Senora With Adolescentes on the back!!! (Que Ricoooo!!)
1:20am of the next day (lol) Maelo Ruiz showed up! Started with his famous song Por Favor Senora.
What delighted me was Los Adolescentes showed up as back singers & orquestra. How luxurious is that!!!!
Maelo, he is big. I thought the same thing last time I saw him too.
Te Necesito Mi Amor
I like this song. Te Necesito Mi Amor
I need you, my love, in English.
I can’t say this enough, but Adolescentes is playing on the back…! Too rich!!
Maelo showed off a capella
I can’t help looking at the back singers and orquestra…!
Two of the Adolescentes working hard here. The other two waited at the back?
Este Amor Que Me Mata
This is a good song too. Este Amor Que Me Mata.
“This love is killing me” in English?
I am sorry to say this again, but back chorus is by Adolescentes. So rich.
You hear them singing “Este amor que me mataaaaa” so beautiful!
You know it’s not that I knew all the songs. After the concert I checked the videos I took, carefully listened to the lyrics and searched for the names. It’s a great exercise for Spanish right?
Closing with Te Va Doler
I danced at the back of the venue in the last few songs. This is why the video was taken from a bit far.
I listened so close, I danced to the live music. So luxurious for sure.
Live ended 2:20am…!
I was so moved that Mariana, my coworker, showed up to the show. I feel her love towards salsa music. Big applause for her!
Especially because… this day’s Tijuana was like this:
Tijuana’s irrigation system is still weak and even a small amount of rain (for Japanese standard) floods the entire region.
Mariana said “She thought of not going, but it wasn’t raining when she left home”
Great job, Mariana!
So this is how I enjoyed this memorable live show.
Adolescentes is touring USA for a month starting in San Diego.
